Yes, I'm still Leaping and Posturing® after all these years! I use this term to describe my fairly vocal presence at conferences, conventions, library and bookstore events. At one time I thought that description might not sound too dignified and was considering changing it to "Groveling and Begging." However, many readers and acquaintances wrote in to request that I stick to Leaping and Posturing®. I have bowed to their superior judgment. I have even trademarked the phrase. . The only problem is that whenever I turn up in public, someone is sure to ask me to demonstrate Leaping and Posturing®. Occasionally, I oblige.
The truth is that I spend most of my life in my upstairs office, hunched over my computer keyboard, muttering constantly, typing furiously, or sitting around listening to the voices. Many people hear voices when there's nobody there. Some of them are called mad and are shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day. Some of them are called writers. They do pretty much the same thing. But nowadays few writers can sit and stare at the walls for too long. It's not enough to write a book, you have to let people know it's out there! So every once in a while, I straighten myself up, get my hair trimmed, my nails filed, replace my sweats with stylish jackets and skirts and blouses ... and then I go Leaping and Posturing® all over the place.
Following are the places I will be visiting to speak and sign in 2010. I'll add details as I have them. I hope to see you on my travels. Be sure to say hello. Prepare to be hugged.
