More Than You Know is the winner of the Otter--a new award given to the best mystery novel of 2003 that is set in Left Coast Crime Conventions geographic area of western states.

It is a standalone suspense novel. The action gets underway in Seattle, one of my favorite places to be. The story began in my head when I was waiting on a sidewalk outside a friend's condo building for my husband to meet me and he was delayed.

In the novel, Madison Sloane, known as Maddy, is waiting beside the large bronze pig at the entrance to Seattle's Pike Place Market for her husband, Bart Williams, to meet her. (No need to ask where I get MY ideas!)

Unaware that FBI Special Agent Nick Ciacia is watching her from a short distance away, Maddy waits patiently at first, then begins to worry that perhaps Bart has been involved in an accident. She wouldn't wish that on him, even though their six-month old marriage is falling apart.

While Maddy is trying to figure out what has happened to Bart, Nick Ciacia approaches her and talks as though he knows her. She doesn't recognize him at all. Eventually, she accepts his offer of help in finding Bart Williams. but it isn't long before she realizes that Nick Ciacia has a deadly agenda all his own.

I hope you will enjoy More Than You Know.

Reviews:

"MORE THAN YOU KNOW is a riveting thriller that takes the reader through a skillfully plotted series of twists and turns. Intriguing characters are not who they seem to be, and suspense lurks around every bend in the great Pacific Northwest landscape of this smart mystery. Revenge, betrayal, greed and passion - Meg Chittenden lays them all bare in this haunting tale of murder and romance."
Linda Fairstein, New York Times bestselling author
"Murder, love and Seattle rain -- More Than You Know is Meg at the top of her suspense game!"
Elizabeth Lowell, New York Times bestselling author
"Meg Chittenden is one of a dying breed--a darned good storyteller. No gimmicks, car chases,or explosions, just characters we care about, a plot that hooks us on page one and a splendid balance between suspense and romance."
Rhys Bowen, Award-winning author
The Magnificent Meg Chittenden's MORE THAN YOU KNOW was a can't-put-it-down book for me. While I don't usually like too much romance in my mysteries, Meg's sense of plot and suspense makes the growing attraction between recent widow, Maddy, and FBI agent Nick Ciacia believable and not at all sappy. Nick has been searching for the killer of his policeman father for decades. Could the man he only knew as "The Snowman" be Maddy's strange and recently murdered husband, a husband she was about to divorce after a brief marriage because of his coldness and other oddities. It reminded me of the Helen MacInnes books I enjoyed so much many years ago. One of the things I like best was that Maddy was a strong woman who did not need Nick to rescue her. She did very fine on her own. A paperback original, well worth the price and more.

"Meg Chittenden has a reputation for being a superb storyteller and MORE THAN YOU KNOW is Meg demonstrating her abilities once again. MORE THAN YOU KNOW is a stand-alone filled with suspense, romance, and mystery. Meg has the talent to let the reader "get to know" her protagonists gradually, much like a person would get to know and like a person in real life. The plot is well constructed and events move quickly so, once started, MORE THAN YOU KNOW is dangerously hard to put down. "

Meg Chittenden, who has traded her native England for Ocean Shores, is a prolific mystery and romance writer. More Than You Know satisfyingly combines both genres. A young suburbanite is abruptly abandoned by her husband at the Pike Place Market. She meets a cop obsessed with finding the hit man who killed his father, and it soon becomes clear that husband and killer are one and the same. I enjoyed it.
Adam Woog, Seattle Times
"This book is riveting. The story is spellbinding; the characters so real you can almost hear them breathing. It's a suspense thriller you cannot miss."
Suzanne Tucker, Courtesy Old Book Barn Gazette
"Meg Chittenden is a veteran author of a long backlist that includes series romances as Rosalind Carson and the Charlie Plato mystery series as Margaret Chittenden. She deftly utilizes that experience to produce a successful romantic suspense that is equally plot and character driven. The mystery unravels with logic and interesting detail, while the unfolding relationship is rich in emotion. Nick is a strong hero and a loving son to his delightful Irish mother, who is the best Italian cook he knows. Maddy is mature and intelligent. She won't let Nick investigate without her, but she never impedes their progress; she rises to every occasion. No too-stupid-to-live heroine, she. There is sexual tension and eventual romance, but little clinical detail in that department. And the Snowman? He's as chilling as his name, a villain no woman should find herself married to.

I highly recommend MORE THAN YOU KNOW, and look forward to Ms. Chittenden's next romantic suspense."
Jane Bowers, Romance Reviews Today
Whenever you marry, the person always turns out to be a little different than who you expected. This is certainly true for Maddy when her new husband suddenly disappears and a handsome stranger comes asking questions about him. Nick CiaCia, pronounced Cha cha, is a man with a mission, to find the serial killer who took his father's life. Maddy's missing husband may well be that man. In an unlikely alliance, a the killer's wife becomes Nick's closest ally in the pursuit of the truth. Before too long, that closeness gets very close.

Pages turn quickly in this action packed suspenseful thriller. The lure of forbidden love combined with the horrified fascination of murder makes for a tension filled read.

I loved this book. Liked the Las Vegas stories too. Couldn't put it down. It was super. I've seen it everywhere. Feel like I should stand by it and tell everyone "this is good--buy it."

"I really enjoyed More Than You Know. It's a treat to sell. Not too much romance--quite the opposite!"
Bonnie Claeson, Black Orchid Bookshop, NY, NY
A mystery to be enjoyed by all mystery fans. With touches of thriller and romance...More Than You Know is a well-written story with several subplots that twist and turn through the plot, drawing the reader into the lives of realistic people you might see on the street or call friend. A thoroughly enjoyable tale highly recommended by this reviewer.

Intelligent characters and a well-crafted mystery makes Meg Chittenden's More Than You Know very interesting reading. When so many authors fumble in jumping onto the romantic suspense bandwagon (I wonder how they will fare on the chicklit bandwagon - romantic suspense is so last year, doncha know), Meg Chittenden's debut Berkley offering is like a pleasant whiff of scented perfume in a stinky environment. This lady seems to know her stuff, so she's probably the real deal and not some follow-where-the-money-is sort.
Mrs. Giggles
The spine of this book calls it "romantic suspense," and boy, is it ever. Full of twists and turns and secrets and lies and heart-stopping suspense and lump-in-the-throat emotion....a really good page-turning read.

"Meg Chittenden's polished prose always delights. When you curl up with one of Meg's books, you know you're in for a treat."
Jayne Ann Krentz, NY Times Bestselling author
As only to be expected, Meg Chittenden has done a great job. It may be published as Romantic Suspense, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the mystery plot. I was kept guessing until the end - and found Maddy and Nick to be very appealing.
Chris Wallace, on DorothyL
What can I say about Meg that hasn't been said before?  I loved the Charlie Plato series and although this is a different kettle of fish, I really loved this one - it deserved all the kudos she has had for it since its publication and the award. I loved the relationship between Steve and Maddy and how they tease out what is happening without getting themselves killed.  Super book.
Di Bingham, on DorothyL
The reader will have sympathy for Maddy, whose once caring fiancé turned cold and distant immediately after the wedding. Her search for her vanished husband neatly parallels Ciacia’s search for his father’s murderer. The growing attraction between the two is well-handled, with Ciacia not being honest with Maddy as, at the same time, she is not completely forthcoming with him. The story works well because the characters also do. The straightforward plot still contains enough surprises to keep the reader turning the pages. This is another good book by a fine author.
Ted Hertel, Deadly Pleasures
Meg's books are always smart in the sense of interesting and intriguing, but also in a classy sassy stylish way.
Linda Markowiak, Popular Romance Author
Whoo! What a ride. This book takes off like a fire-engine, sirens screaming, lights flashing, and does not slow down. I read the book in less than three hours. We have a huge mystery, twists and turns, a love story, a beautifully plotted story, great people about whom we care. This one is on the top of my list for the year.
