DYING TO SING is the first novel in my Charlie Plato mystery series. All twenty-six years of my writing life, I've wanted to write a mystery series that featured a young female amateur sleuth. In her own words, Charlie Plato is a 'thirty year old divorcee with an attitude," which makes her, depending on your point of view, a cliche, or a nineties woman. Charlie is a partner in a country western tavern named CHAPS, which is located on the San Francisco Peninsula, between the San Andreas and the Hayward faults. DYING TO SING starts off with an earthquake, which uncovers...well, I don't want to give too much away.

One of Charlie's partners is thirty-five year old Zack Hunter, a TV actor currently 'resting on his residuals.' For seven years, Zack played Sheriff Lazarro on the wildly improbable, very popular TV series, Prescott's Landing. When he and Charlie get involved in tracking down murderers from time to time, Zack's approach to sleuthing is to draw on plot lines from the TV show. To Charlie's disgust, this method occasionally works.
